For some time now, DocMagic has been developing a solution that would allow our generated documents, with added loan data, to be read by common screen readers that are used by consumers with limited visibility. This is commonly referred to by us as “ADA tagging” of our forms, referring to the Americans with Disabilities Act which requires public accommodation of persons with disabilities. The method we have used for tagging our forms would be technically identified as “PDF/UA” for the PDF/Universal Accessibility standard, an ISO standard for accessible PDF technology.
As of April 2025, DocMagic can now fully support ADA-tagging for each of our standard documents we provide in our standard loan plans for all conventional products. This includes state disclosures as well as all standard conventional notes, security instruments, riders, and addenda for first-lien loans.
ADA-compliant (tagged) forms are now available for use by any DocMagic customer who utilizes an LOS integration, for their standard first-lien conventional loans. Customers who wish to employ ADA-tagged forms should contact DocMagic Customer Service to have your account configured for use of ADA tagging. Customers will also need to include an indicator with their process request for each transaction where they wish to use ADA-tagged forms.
The total output will include documents generated as normal with embedded data tagging and reading order which can be used by a screen reader to read the document to the end-user consumer.
DocMagic has also made our document signing view in DocMagic eSign compatible for use with screen readers through compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”) published and maintained by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG guidelines also provide support for keyboard accessibility of webpages (rather than use of a mouse). DocMagic’s eSign is compatible with WCAG 2.1 Levels A and AA success criteria.
DocMagic will continue to expand our offering of ADA-tagged forms, with anticipated completion of all standard FHA, USDA and VA documents near the end of 2025. DocMagic can also add tagging support for any customer-requested custom documents.
Should you have any questions about ADA-tagging or WCAG guidelines, please contact the DocMagic Compliance department.
